Glass mercury tilt switches are mounted on a bi-metallic spring, which expands and contracts with changing temperature. When the spring moves, the switch contact passes through horizontal plane and opens or closes in order to operate the furnace and boilers. For proper operation, the switch must move through the differential angle that is measured from the point of just make to just break. While selecting a tilt switch, the operating mechanism should be chosen that can move the switch through an angle greater than the differential angle.
